| Melanie Neale grew up living aboard her family's Gulfstar 47, Chez Nous,cruising from New England to the Bahamas each year. When she moved off Chez Nous at age 19, she attended Eckerd Collge in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing. While in graduate school at Florida International University for a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, she bought an ancient Columbia 28, which she named Short Story. She lived aboard for 5 years, both at a marina in North Miami Beach and then later in Dania.
